Halloween Dusseldorf: Altstadt legends on an evening walk
City games in Düsseldorf (3) ↓Halloween Dusseldorf can be more than a costume night in a bar. The Altstadt has a crooked church spire, an old ducal tomb and a castle tower that survived a fire, and they look their best on a dark autumn evening. With City Game you explore them on your own phone, solving riddles and photo tasks as a team. Start whenever you like and walk at your own pace.

I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Which old stories belong to Dusseldorf's Altstadt?
The spire of the Basilika St. Lambertus is visibly twisted, and locals have told playful legends about why for a long time. Nearby, St. Andreas holds the tomb of Elector Johann Wilhelm, better known as Jan Wellem, so you walk past the resting place of the city's most famous ruler.
On the Burgplatz stands the Schlossturm, the only part of the city palace left after it burned in 1872. And the Radschläger, the cartwheeling boys you see on fountains and souvenirs, go back to a legend about children who cartwheeled through the streets after the Battle of Worringen in 1288.
In the Rhineland, November means St. Martin's processions with lanterns, and on 11 November carnival season begins.

Which games can you play in Dusseldorf?
Three games run through the centre, and each takes 1.5 to 2 hours.
Secrets of Dusseldorf starts on the Grabbeplatz and leads you past St. Andreas, the Basilika St. Lambertus and the Radschlägerbrunnen. You play it in the browser on your own phone, no app needed. The Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Dusseldorf is a detective case based on Sherlock Holmes that runs from Grabbeplatz through the Altstadt to the Ratinger Tor. The Dusseldorf Syndicate (outdoor escape game), an outdoor alternative to an escape room for 2 to 5 players, follows Magnus and the stolen formulas from the Mutter-Ey-Straße to the Burgplatz. Both of these use the free Loquiz app.
Is there a Halloween ghost game in Dusseldorf?
Our ghost game Ghost Hunters is coming to Dusseldorf. It is not available yet, but you can leave your e-mail address on this page and we will tell you when it starts.
Until then, any of the three games makes a good halloween Dusseldorf plan. Start in the late afternoon and finish in the dark, when the lanes of the Altstadt fill with light and the Rhine promenade turns quiet. Wear warm clothes and bring a charged phone.
What does a halloween Dusseldorf city game cost?
A game costs €19.95 per team: one phone, at most 4 players. The Dusseldorf Syndicate (outdoor escape game) is for 2 to 5 players.
Is there a Halloween discount?
Yes, the code HALLOWEEN50 gives 50% off all our games. It is valid until 2 November.
Do I need an app?
For Secrets of Dusseldorf you only need the browser on your phone. The other two games use the free Loquiz app.
How long does a game take?
Each game takes 1.5 to 2 hours. You decide the pace and can stop for a drink on the way.
Can colleagues play it as a team outing?
Yes, a larger group splits into teams of up to 4, each with its own phone and ticket. It works well as an after-work outing.
