I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

What is Ghost Hunters in Amsterdam?
Ghost Hunters in Amsterdam is our Halloween game: you join the night-shift ghost hunters and follow the trail of Rembrandt's ghost, who haunts the Amsterdam opera. It takes 1.5 to 2 hours and runs in the browser on your own phone, so there is nothing to install.
You start near the Nationale Opera & Ballet, known as the Stopera, and soon pass the Rembrandthuis, where the painter once lived and worked. From there the trail leads to the Zuiderkerk and the Huis aan de Drie Grachten, a house that stands where three canals meet. Along the way you solve riddles and photo tasks as a team, and the story slowly brings you closer to the ghost.

Why play in Amsterdam's streets on a Halloween evening?
Amsterdam's old centre changes after dark. The canals turn black, the gables lean over the water and the church towers disappear into the low autumn sky. A walk through these streets in late October already feels a little eerie, and a ghost story gives it purpose.
Halloween is not an old Dutch tradition, but it has become popular in recent years, with costume parties and children knocking on doors in some neighbourhoods. A city game is a calmer way to join in: you spend the evening outside with friends, family, a partner or colleagues, talking about clues instead of standing in a crowded bar. The route passes the Heilige Stede on the Rokin, a reminder of how much history lies under these streets.
Which other games can you play in Amsterdam?
Prefer a daytime outing? Secrets of Amsterdam explores the Museum Quarter in 1.5 to 2 hours, also in the browser on your own phone with no app. You start at Museumplein by the entrance of the Rijksmuseum and walk past the Hobbemakade, the Concertgebouw and the Van Baerlestraat on the way to the Vondelpark.
Both games work well for a group outing. Several teams can play at the same time on their own phones and compare scores at the end. For a Halloween evening, Ghost Hunters in Amsterdam is the natural first choice.
What does it cost and how do you start?
Each game costs €19.95 per team: one phone, at most 4 players. You buy it online, open it on your phone and start whenever you want, every day. Your game stays valid for 12 months, so you can also save it for another dark evening.
With the code HALLOWEEN50 you get 50% off all our games until 2 November. Bring a charged phone, warm clothes and a team that enjoys a good story.
Do I need an app for Ghost Hunters in Amsterdam?
No. You play in the browser on your own phone, so there is nothing to download.
Where does the ghost trail start?
It starts near the Nationale Opera & Ballet (Stopera). From there you walk past the Rembrandthuis and the Zuiderkerk.
How long does the game take?
Plan 1.5 to 2 hours. You set your own pace and can take a break whenever you like.
How much is the Halloween discount?
The code HALLOWEEN50 gives you 50% off all our games. It is valid until 2 November.
