I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Why does Gouda feel so atmospheric on an October night?
Gouda has no famous ghost story we can vouch for, but it has the setting for one. The Stadhuis on the Markt is one of the oldest gothic town halls in the country, its pointed towers standing alone in the middle of the square. Seen in the dark, it looks like something from an old fairy tale.
A few streets away, the Sint-Janskerk is the longest church in the Netherlands, and its stained glass windows have survived for centuries. Small courtyards such as the Swanenburghshofje and the old Jeruzalemkapel make you slow down and listen to your own footsteps on the cobbles.

How is Halloween celebrated in Gouda?
Like most Dutch towns, Gouda adopted Halloween from abroad. You will see carved pumpkins, children in costumes and friends meeting up for a party, but no ancient local ritual.
An evening game is a good way to make the night your own. The canals and narrow streets of the centre are close together, so you never walk far, and the early autumn dark gives familiar places a different face. Families can play before dinner, groups of friends later in the evening.
Which games can you play in Gouda around Halloween?
Secrets of Gouda starts at the Stadhuis van Gouda and passes the Kamphuisen Stroopwafel Factory, the Sint-Janskerk and the Willem Vroesenhuys. Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Gouda is a detective story based on Sherlock Holmes that leads you past De Goudse Waag and Museum Gouda. Both run in the browser on your own phone, no app.
The Gouda Syndicate (outdoor escape game) takes 2 to 5 players along the Wijdstraat, the Jeruzalemkapel and the Zeugstraat in the free Loquiz app: an outdoor alternative to an escape room. Every game takes 1.5 to 2 hours and costs €19.95 per team.
