I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

What dark history does Middelburg have?
Middelburg's darkest night was very real. In May 1940 a fire swept through the old centre during the German invasion, and the abbey, the Stadhuis and the tower of Lange Jan were badly burned.
Much of what you see today was rebuilt with great care after the war, and knowing that makes an evening walk feel different. When the streets empty and the lamps come on, you look at the restored facades and the tall tower of Lange Jan above the abbey and picture the flames that once lit the same sky. Old gates such as the Koepoort remind you how long this city has been guarding its own stories.

How do people celebrate Halloween in Middelburg?
Halloween is a newer custom in the Netherlands, and in a small city like Middelburg it is mostly low key: carved pumpkins in windows, a costume party here and there, children dressed up with friends. It is not a big street event.
That is exactly why a quiet walk works so well. The canals around the centre are dark by early evening, the wind comes in from the sea, and the narrow streets around the Oostkerk and the Sint-Jorisdoelen feel far older at night. A game gives your group a route, a goal and a good excuse to be out on a chilly October evening.
