I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

How we check reviews

These reviews were left by players on Google and other review sites and are copied from there as they are, with their source.

What do you see around the tower stop?

Secrets of Middelburg passes Gistpoort, the Blue Gate, then Lange Jan and Sint-Jorisdoelen. These real places give your walking activity settings to notice between challenges. The tower becomes part of a route you explore together rather than only a landmark to photograph before moving on.

Look around when you reach it before returning to the next question on your phone. Sharing a puzzle walk leaves room for both the surroundings and the answers. If you want more time for independent sightseeing, plan it alongside the game so your group can enjoy the activity without trying to fit every other visit into its playing time.

How do the puzzles work for your group?

You solve riddles and photo tasks in the free Loquiz app on one phone during Secrets of Middelburg. At most 4 players form a team following the game without an accompanying guide. Read each challenge aloud and compare different suggestions before choosing how to respond.

Friends may enjoy discussing several approaches, a couple can reason through a question side by side, and colleagues can share a problem away from their normal routine. Make sure everyone hears the instruction even when one person carries the device. Taking turns contributing keeps the game shared as you continue on foot and notice the city around you.

What should you plan before starting in Middelburg?

The game costs €19.95 per team and lasts 1.5 to 2 hours, with one phone for at most 4 players. Decide which device you will share before beginning, and leave room for walking as well as solving. Any additional activities can have separate time around the game in your plans.

You can start whenever you want, every day, within a validity period of 12 months. Select a moment when your companions are ready to join in with the questions and the exploration.
