I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

How we check reviews

These reviews were left by players on Google and other review sites and are copied from there as they are, with their source.

What comes after the Blue Gate on the route?

Secrets of Middelburg includes Gistpoort before Lange Jan, Sint-Jorisdoelen and Koepoort in walking order. These places give your exploration a real setting, connecting an interest in the gate with a wider outing through Middelburg. Puzzles and photo tasks provide the common activity your group follows along the way.

At the gate, make room to look around before returning to the game. Your teammates can enjoy arriving somewhere and still have something to work on as the route continues. The walk supplies destinations, while the tasks give the time between them a shared purpose. It is an option for people who like sightseeing to include participation rather than only moving between places.

How do you take part as a group?

The game uses the free Loquiz app on your own phone, with at most 4 players sharing one team. You explore Middelburg on foot, keeping the puzzles and photo tasks available on a single shared device. Everyone can contribute without following a separate screen.

Read what the activity presents and agree on your approach together. You can discuss a puzzle, explain an idea and decide how to tackle a photo task as a group. A couple, friends or colleagues may enjoy bringing different ways of thinking to the same exploration. Keep the information available to everyone, so the person handling the phone helps the whole team participate rather than making all the choices alone.

What do you need to arrange before playing?

The game takes 1.5 to 2 hours and costs €19.95 per team. You can start whenever you want, every day, within the 12-month validity period. Choose a playing time that gives your group enough room for the activity within its Middelburg day.

Keep independent visits to sights separate from the game duration. Before starting, decide who will join and which phone you will share, staying within the limit of 4 players per team. Once you begin, let the actual surroundings and your teammates’ ideas have attention alongside the tasks. The route connects the places, while your group’s discussion helps make the exploration a shared experience throughout the walk.
