I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

How we check reviews

These reviews were left by players on Google and other review sites and are copied from there as they are, with their source.

Which detective route passes the Münster?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Basel includes Martinskirche, Rathaus Basel, Basler Münster and Pfalz in that walking order. These real locations provide surroundings for a fictional investigation that your group works through on foot. Notice the cathedral respectfully during the outing and plan any visit inside independently of the city game. Your companions can compare possible explanations before choosing an answer together. Share the prompt so every player can offer an observation or question, keeping the reasoning open to the whole team. This leaves time to look around as well as follow the case, rather than making the screen the only focus of your walk through the city.

What discovery route can you choose instead?

Secrets of Basel includes Basel Marktplatz, Peterskirche Square, University of Basel Entrance and Heuberg Street in that sequence. Puzzles and photo tasks give your group varied activities during a self-guided discovery walk. Choose it if your companions prefer those challenges to following a detective plot. Both games give the outing a shared purpose, but the kind of activity you discuss will differ. Agree on what interests everyone before selecting an adventure, then focus on one game together. Each person can contribute observations and ideas while the route brings different surroundings into view. Keep any separate interior visits outside the walking activity, giving each part of your day its own time and attention.

What does a team need for the game?

Both listed adventures cost €19.95 per team, take about 1.5 to 2 hours and allow up to four players sharing one phone. Secrets runs in your own phone browser without an app; Sherlock Holmes uses the free Loquiz app. You can start daily at a flexible time, and the purchase remains valid for 12 months. Choose a suitable space in your plans for the route and the tasks. During play, read or show the prompts to all your companions so everyone follows the current challenge. Different interpretations can make the next response a discussion, with each player helping the group decide how to continue the selected adventure through the city together.
