I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Which detective route passes the city hall?
Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Basel includes Martinskirche, Rathaus Basel, Basler Münster and Pfalz in that walking order. This sequence brings real places into your outing while the fictional case provides an investigation to discuss. Look at the city hall during the route and keep any interior visit as a separate plan. Your group can compare possible explanations for the current clue before choosing an answer. That makes the case a shared activity, with everyone able to contribute an observation or question. The phone supplies the prompts, while the walk gives you different surroundings to notice as you continue exploring the centre together through the game.

What discovery route can you choose instead?
Secrets of Basel includes Basel Marktplatz, Peterskirche Square, University of Basel Entrance and Heuberg Street in that walking order. Puzzles and photo tasks turn the route into a discovery adventure for your group. Choose it if your companions prefer varied tasks to a detective investigation, with the city providing places to encounter between challenges. Think about which format interests everyone before selecting a game, then follow that one adventure as a team. You can look around, compare what you notice and discuss your next answer together. The outing becomes more than a route between buildings when each person can participate in the activities along the walk.
How do you set up a team’s adventure?
Both listed Basel games cost €19.95 per team and allow up to four players sharing one phone. They take around 1.5 to 2 hours. Secrets runs in your own phone browser without an app, while Sherlock Holmes uses the free Loquiz app. Flexible daily starts and 12 months of validity let you choose a suitable time for the group. Leave room for the walk and the shared tasks in your plans. During play, read prompts aloud or show the screen so everyone understands the current challenge.
