I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Where can you see the church during play?
The Wasserkirche is a church at Limmatquai 31 in Zurich, passed by both featured city games. Its building can be appreciated from outside during the walk, giving your group an architectural pause between moments of play. Rather than leaving all attention on the person with the phone, give each companion a chance to notice something about the place. You can then return to your story when everyone is ready. If you want to visit the church separately as well, organise that independently and add time around the walking game. Its duration describes the activity, not your entire sightseeing day.

Which Zurich story would you like to share?
Secrets of Zurich passes the Wasserkirche during a mission to help Huldrych Zwingli recover the Disputation Scroll. Along the route you see the Ehgraben sewer tunnel at Schifflände, Grossmünster Church and Cabaret Voltaire. Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Zurich passes the church too, on a detective walk from the Fraumünster over the Rathausbrücke towards the Lindenhof. The routes offer different narrative reasons to explore the city. Pick the scroll mission if its fictional goal appeals to your companions, or choose the murder case if you would rather keep discussing an investigation while moving between the places you see together.
What matters when choosing the phone setup?
Secrets of Zurich runs in the browser on your own phone, while the detective game uses the free Loquiz app. Both cost €19.95 per team, take 1.5 to 2 hours and allow at most 4 players sharing one phone. Choosing between browser play and an app can be as useful as comparing the stories. Agree on the device and make room for everyone's ideas during play, even if one person reads from the screen. You can start whenever you want, every day, with validity for 12 months. Leave time separately for other Zurich plans around the self-guided walk.
