I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

How does the museum connect with Secrets?

Secrets of Emmen passes the museum during a self-guided exploration game that begins on Marktplein. Its route also includes Grote of Pancratiuskerk, Atlas Theater, Eva by Hans Ittman and Veen (Peat Garden), in that order. These places and tasks give your walk a discovery focus, with the phone helping your group take part as you explore. Notice the museum as part of the outing and arrange any interior visit separately. Puzzles and photo tasks add things to do together between locations. Share the current challenge with your companions so everyone has the chance to offer an observation or suggest how to answer it.

Would a detective case or outdoor mission suit you?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Emmen begins at Grote of Pancratiuskerk and passes Rensenpark during an investigation on foot. Choose it if your group wants a case to consider as you walk. The Emmen Syndicate (outdoor escape game) follows Magnus and stolen formulas through the streets. Its route includes Marktplein, Grote of Pancratiuskerk, Hoofdstraat and Willinkplein, in that sequence. The story gives the outing a mission to work towards together. Compare these options with Secrets before choosing, thinking about whether your companions prefer discovery tasks, detective reasoning or an outdoor chase as the focus for your group’s time exploring Emmen on foot.

What should you allow for the activity?

Every listed game takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and uses the free Loquiz app. The cost is €19.95 per team. Secrets and Sherlock Holmes allow up to four players on one shared phone; the Syndicate allows up to five. Flexible starting times are available daily, and the purchase is valid for 12 months. Find a suitable space in your plans for the group to enjoy the walk. Keep separate interior visits outside that game time. As you play, read prompts aloud or show the screen so everyone can follow the activity, helping the group make decisions together rather than leaving one person to solve everything.
