I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Why include a pause at Rensenpark?

Rensenpark is a park in Emmen that you can notice during your city exploration. Take a moment to look at the wider setting instead of only following the next instruction on the phone. You can compare your teammates’ impressions without making the pause another quiz. Some may notice the space as a whole while others focus on a smaller detail. Give the park its own moment, then return to your game and carry on with a shared task or story to discuss together.

Which exploration game passes the park?

Secrets of Emmen passes Rensenpark and starts on Marktplein. It combines puzzles and photo tasks with a self-guided walk through the centre. Along the route you see Grote of Pancratiuskerk, Atlas Theater and the sculpture Eva by Hans Ittman. Choose it if your team likes varied tasks during exploration. Let different people explain a possible solution before deciding what to enter. That gives an idea from someone without the phone room to help the group and keeps the activity shared throughout the walk.

What other game stories pass Rensenpark?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Emmen starts at Grote of Pancratiuskerk and passes the centre and Rensenpark. It gives your walk a detective case to investigate. The Emmen Syndicate (outdoor escape game) also passes the park, following Magnus and the stolen formulas from the church to Willinkplein. Along that route you see Marktplein, Grote of Pancratiuskerk and Hoofdstraat. It is an outdoor escape game played on the streets. Choose whether your team would rather investigate a case or follow a chase as its shared goal.

What are the practical conditions for playing?

All three use the free Loquiz app. Choose and prepare your shared phone before heading out. You can start whenever you want, every day, and your purchase is valid for twelve months.
