I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Which detective route includes the museum?
Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Maastricht includes Bonnefanten museum, Vrijthof, Sint Pieter Fort and City Hall among its stops, in that walking order. The case gives your group something to discuss as you encounter these real city locations. Treat the museum as a place along your game route, arranging any interior visit as a separate part of your day. You can enjoy the investigation while taking time to look around, rather than concentrating only on the screen. Share the current clue with everyone and consider different interpretations before agreeing on an answer. That keeps both the case and the city walk open to the whole team.

What can you play besides the detective case?
Secrets of Maastricht combines a self-guided exploration game with puzzles, starting from Vrijthof and passing Saint Servatius, Stokstraat and Helpoort. Choose it for a discovery activity that gives your walk things to solve together. The Maastricht Syndicate (outdoor escape game) follows Magnus and stolen formulas instead. Its route includes Vrijthof, Basiliek van Sint Servaas, Platielstraat and Sint Servaasbrug in that order. This mission takes place in the streets, with a pursuit to share as you explore. Think about which format your companions would enjoy most before choosing, so the group can follow one adventure with the same expectations from the start of the outing.
What are the practical details before you begin?
All three adventures cost €19.95 per team, take around 1.5 to 2 hours and use the free Loquiz app. Secrets and Sherlock Holmes allow up to four players on one phone, while the Syndicate allows up to five. Flexible daily starting times let you choose when to set off, and the purchase is valid for 12 months. Leave room in your plans for the game and any separately arranged museum visit. During play, reading prompts aloud or showing the screen helps everyone stay involved. Each player can offer an observation or possible answer, giving your companions a part in the decisions as well as in the walk.
