I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Why stop to look at the Helpoort?

The Helpoort is a historic city gate in Maastricht that you can look at during your city exploration. Take in the whole structure before focusing on the passage and the building around it. A short pause gives the landmark more attention than simply recognising its name. Ask your teammates what first caught their eye, without making the moment another quiz. You can enjoy different observations and then return to the game, continuing your walk with both a story to follow and places to notice.

Which exploration game passes the gate?

Secrets of Maastricht passes the Helpoort on a self-guided route from Vrijthof past Saint Servatius and Stokstraat. You solve puzzles as you walk. Along its route you see the government buildings on the Meuse, Augustijnenkerk and Sint Servaasbrug. Choose this game if your team wants exploration to have a shared goal. Invite more than one person to suggest an answer before you enter it. That gives different ideas room to help the group and keeps the activity shared throughout your walk together.

Which detective and chase stories can you choose?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Maastricht and The Maastricht Syndicate (outdoor escape game) also pass the Helpoort. The detective story runs from City Hall to Vrijthof and the gate; you see Bonnefanten museum and Vrijthof along its route. The Syndicate follows Magnus and the stolen formulas from Vrijthof to Sint Servaasbrug. You see Vrijthof, the Basilica of Saint Servatius and Platielstraat. It is an outdoor escape game through the streets. Decide whether your team would rather investigate a case or follow the chase as your shared activity.
