I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

What does the gallery add to a city walk?
The Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert are covered galleries in Brussels, with the address Galerie du Roi 5. Their architectural setting gives your group a different focus from the squares and individual statues elsewhere along the walks. Take a moment to look at the space before returning to the activity on your phone. Your companions can compare what they notice, making the sightseeing a shared conversation too. The game connects several places through a story. Plan any separate visits independently and allow additional time if you want to explore beyond the walking activity itself, so your group can keep its own pace.

Which Brussels stories pass the galleries?
Secrets of Brussels and Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Brussels both pass the galleries. The exploration story asks you to join Agent X.O. and recover a legendary waffle-patterned outfit. Along its route you see the Palace of Karel van Lotharingen, the Queen Elisabeth statue and Brussels Parliament. The detective game gives you a murder case to follow through the centre. Its route includes the Musical Instruments Museum, the Magritte Museum and Brussels Park before the galleries. Choose the outfit recovery mission if its fictional premise appeals, or the investigation if your companions would rather discuss a detective case while walking together.
How do you choose the practical setup?
Secrets of Brussels works in the browser on your own phone with no app, while the detective option uses the free Loquiz app. Both cost €19.95 per team, last 1.5 to 2 hours and allow at most 4 players sharing one phone.
