I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

How we check reviews

These reviews were left by players on Google and other review sites and are copied from there as they are, with their source.

Where does the theatre fit into the city route?

Secrets of Deventer starts on Broederenplein and takes you past Broederenkerk and the theatre, with St. Nicholas Church, also known as Bergkerk, appearing further along the route. These places give the walk different settings while the tasks provide a common activity between them. The theatre becomes part of your city outing rather than a separate performance visit.

Look at the place when you arrive, then return to the phone together when the group is ready. No theatre admission or performance ticket is specified for the game. If you want to make other plans at the theatre, arrange them separately from the walking activity.

What makes the exploration game a shared activity?

Secrets of Deventer combines puzzles and photo tasks on a self-guided walk. The variety allows different contributions: one companion may enjoy reasoning through an answer while another has an idea for a photograph. You can take turns leading a task without needing one person to direct the entire outing.

Up to four players share one phone with the free Loquiz app. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours for the game. Make sure everyone hears the task before you discuss a solution. When the conversation includes the whole team, the shared device becomes a tool for exploring together rather than something only its holder is following.

Which game offers a detective alternative?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Deventer offers a separate investigation from Stationsplein to Wilhelminabrug and St Lebuïnus Church. Choose it when your group wants a continuing case to solve, or select the exploration game for varied tasks and the route that passes the theatre. The two activities give your walk different kinds of purpose.

Both use the free Loquiz app, take 1.5 to 2 hours and cost €19.95 per team of up to four players on one phone. Both offer flexible daily starts and twelve months of validity after purchase. Choose the activity with your companions and then find a suitable date to explore together.

Does the exploration route pass the theatre?

Yes. It appears after Broederenkerk among the listed stops.

Is a performance included?

No performance ticket or theatre admission is specified.

How many players can use one phone?

Up to four players form a team for either game.

Can we set our own starting time?

Yes, both games have flexible daily starts.
