I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

How we check reviews

These reviews were left by players on Google and other review sites and are copied from there as they are, with their source.

Which route includes the toy museum?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Deventer includes Geert Groote Huis, St. Nicholas Church and Wilhelminabrug before reaching Toy Museum Deventer. The detective adventure starts from Stationsplein, giving your group a place to begin following the case. You encounter the museum as part of the walk, while an interior visit is something to arrange separately if you want to add it to your day. Keep the investigation shared by discussing what each clue might mean before answering. That lets the route and the story work together, with your companions looking at the city as well as considering the next step in the case.

What other challenges can you choose?

Secrets of Deventer begins on Broederenplein and combines an exploration walk with puzzles and photo tasks. Its route includes Broederenkerk and St. Nicholas Church (Bergkerk), giving your discovery game places to notice along the way. The Deventer Syndicate (outdoor escape game) follows Magnus and the stolen formulas. That route includes Geert Groote Huis, Grote of Lebuinuskerk, Stadhuis and Duimpoort, in that order. Select Secrets for discovery or the Syndicate for an outdoor mission, rather than a detective case. Think about what your companions will enjoy doing together, then choose one adventure so everyone can follow the same story during the walk.

How do the price and phone setup work?

Each Deventer game costs €19.95 per team and uses the free Loquiz app. Secrets and Sherlock Holmes allow up to four players sharing one phone, while the Syndicate allows up to five. Allow about 1.5 to 2 hours for the game you select. You can begin at a flexible time daily, and your purchase remains valid for 12 months. Agree on a time that leaves room for the walk and any separate museum visit you plan. During play, share each prompt rather than keeping the screen to one person. Everyone can then add an observation or interpretation and stay involved as the story develops.
