I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Which story route passes the church?
Secrets of Haarlem includes Hoofdwacht, Frans Hals Museum and Gedempte Voldersgracht before the church. In the game you help Kenau Simonsdochter Hasselaer recover a spear connected with the story of the city’s courage. This is the adventure’s fictional thread, while the real route gives your walk different places to notice.
At the church, let the building have attention separately from the story and be considerate of people visiting or using it. No admission or interior visit is specified for the activity. If you want an additional visit, plan it independently alongside the game. Clear expectations help companions understand the shared outing and where extra visiting time belongs in your day.

How do you follow the adventure without an app?
Secrets of Haarlem runs in your phone browser, with no app to install, for a team of up to four players. You share one device and follow the activity self-guided, discussing ideas as the walk continues. The story gives your group something in common while real places provide the route settings.
Let everyone hear each instruction before the team agrees on an answer. One person can read while another explains their approach, and those roles can change during the outing. A companion without the phone may suggest another possibility worth considering. Keeping those contributions open helps the activity remain shared rather than managed only by the device holder throughout the walk.
Which separate game offers a detective case?
Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Haarlem runs from Grote Markt past St Bavo to Teylers Museum. Its route also includes Bakenesserkerk. Choose it for a continuing investigation, or the browser-based adventure for the story walk that includes Nieuwe Kerk. The detective game uses the free Loquiz app rather than browser play.
Both activities take 1.5 to 2 hours and cost €19.95 per team of up to four players on one phone. Both offer flexible daily starts and twelve months of validity after purchase. Compare the stories and phone setups with your companions before choosing a suitable day. Extra visiting time belongs alongside the game duration in your shared plan.
