I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

What can you notice on Grote Markt?
Grote Markt is a square in Antwerp where you can pause during your city exploration. Look at the whole space before focusing on the buildings around its edges. Taking your attention away from the phone briefly helps you see the place rather than only the next instruction. Compare impressions with teammates without adding a separate quiz. You can let the square be a sightseeing moment on its own, then return to your chosen game and continue exploring with a shared task or story.

Which exploration story passes the square?
Secrets of Antwerp passes Grote Markt and joins Silvius Brabo in a search for a shapeshifting giant. Along the route you see Antwerp City Hall, Grote Markt and Het Steen. It works in the browser on your own phone, with no app. Choose it if the shared search appeals to your team. Decide which phone you will use, but let ideas come from different people. Asking another teammate to explain an answer before you enter it helps keep the whole group involved during the walk.
Which detective and chase routes can you choose?
The Antwerp Syndicate (outdoor escape game) passes Grote Markt, tracking Magnus and the stolen formulas from Groenplaats to Steenplein. You see Vlaeykensgang, Steenplein and Vleeshuis along its route. It is an outdoor escape game on the streets. Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Antwerp also leads from Grote Markt past the cathedral to Het Steen on the Scheldt. On its route you see Plantin-Moretus Museum and The Rubens House. Both options use the free Loquiz app. Choose investigation or a chase as your team’s shared story.
What are the costs and practical conditions?
The listed Antwerp games cost €19.95 per team and take 1.5 to 2 hours. Secrets and Sherlock allow up to four players sharing one phone; The Syndicate allows up to five. Choose the game before preparing your phone because the app requirements differ. You can start whenever you want, every day, and your purchase is valid for twelve months. Pick a time with space for discussing tasks and looking around. That gives everyone room to contribute ideas instead of only following the person holding the phone.
