I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Where does the cathedral fit into a city walk?
The Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal is a cathedral at Groenplaats 21 in Antwerp. Seeing its exterior gives you an architectural pause during a walk through the city. Let everyone look up from the phone before moving on: the building is a sight in its own right, as well as a place along your game outing. You can enjoy the contrast between concentrating on a story and looking at the surroundings together. Any plans to go inside belong to a separate visit, so decide how much time you want for sightseeing alongside the game itself.

Which Antwerp stories pass the cathedral?
Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Antwerp and The Antwerp Syndicate (outdoor escape game) both pass the cathedral. The detective story takes you from the Grote Markt past the cathedral to Het Steen on the Scheldt. That gives you a clear connection between a square, a church and the waterfront. The outdoor escape story follows Magnus and stolen formulas from the Groenplaats past the Grote Markt towards Steenplein. On that route you also see Vlaeykensgang and Steenplein. Pick the investigation if your group enjoys discussing a case, or the pursuit if you want an outdoor escape story in the streets.
How much time and preparation do you need?
The two games passing the cathedral last 1.5 to 2 hours and use the free Loquiz app. Each costs €19.95 per team with one phone. The detective game allows at most 4 players, while the outdoor escape game allows at most 5. These limits help you choose a story that fits the group coming with you. Make the phone a shared point for reading and discussion, then give everyone space to contribute ideas. You can start whenever you want, every day, and the game is valid for 12 months. This lets you arrange the outing around your own plans in Antwerp.
