I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

How we check reviews

These reviews were left by players on Google and other review sites and are copied from there as they are, with their source.

How should you approach the synagogue stop?

The synagogue is a real religious place along the detective route and deserves attention separate from the game’s fictional case. Look at the building considerately and avoid allowing the investigation to dominate the stop. You can give the place a moment of its own before returning to the activity on the phone.

No interior visit or admission is specified for the walking game. If you want a separate visit, consider it independently in your plans rather than assuming it is part of the route activity. This keeps your expectations clear and helps your group approach both the city walk and the synagogue with appropriate attention.

Which detective walk passes the synagogue?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Enschede starts from the Oude Markt and takes you past Grote Kerk, the synagogue and Het Volkspark. Your group works on a detective murder case as the walk continues through different settings. The activity gives the journey a common thread while leaving the real places distinct from the fiction.

You play self-guided using the free Loquiz app, with up to four players sharing one phone. Invite each companion to offer a view before choosing an answer. The person reading the screen can help everyone follow the case, while the reasoning and decisions belong to the whole team throughout the walk.

Would a puzzle walk suit your group instead?

Secrets of Enschede offers a separate walking game from Oude Markt past Grote Kerk and St. Jacobuskerk to De Kleine Willem. It combines puzzles and photo tasks, providing a different style of activity from the detective investigation. Choose the detective game when you want the route that includes the synagogue.

Both games use the free Loquiz app, take 1.5 to 2 hours and cost €19.95 per team of up to four players. Both can be started whenever you like, every day, and remain valid for twelve months after purchase. Compare the two activity styles with your companions before choosing a suitable day to explore together.
